Fall 2022

Supima Cotton, tulle, and interfacing

The idea behind this project was to rethink the body. Given my background and the restriction of only using white fabric, I thought about the saying "Your body is a temple." The phrase often refers to the idea that one should not alter the body because it is perfect as is. I thought it would be an interesting dichotomy to change the body using the architecture found in temples and other religious buildings. I decided to change the sleeves into sharp points to emulate the hard arches in cathedrals and the softness of angel wings. I also wanted to take into account the color and its symbolism. I created a top and bottom that felt bridal to further the idea of purity and events that take place in such buildings.
