Fall 2022

Muslin, cotton, felt, watercolor, yarn, leather, and metal.

Group Collaboration between me, another apparel student, and a jewelry student. We wanted to create a protest piece that exposed the gorry insides of the American healthcare system. After extensive research, we decided to create a reversible piece. One side is a normal surgical gown and the other is our take on a skin suit. I hand watercolored the muslin to look like flesh then used a mixture of Elmer's glue and water to place the felt into a veiny texture. The other student knitted together yarn to create the appearance of one's insides. The jewelry student created buckles into the shape of bandaids and covered them in resin to look like blood. I hand-sewed small beads and used a surgical stitch on some of the seams. We used red leather to weave through the buckles. We created a campaign including a video, interviews, and bandaids that I had designed.
